STENCIL ART

An old renewed technique. I invite you to visit  www.stencilrevolution.com

Starting from a photo we can achieve a stylized image 2, 3 or more colors, overlapping templates and then creating images on several layers.
I have seen in person some beautiful works, done with masks very large and detailed. The only carving can take several days of work, an activity that requires great precision and lot of patience. Generally  the stencils are made on sheets of acetate.

So, I tried  but I also must say that carve acetate is easier said than done, and after several failures despite the use of cutters of various kinds, I followed a different technique: I carved the   acetate sheet using a welder for microelectronics with an edge end. I found a welder with interchangeable tips which you can also mount an x-acto blade, with the advantage of using it hot.

I plan on running the PC and printed on white paper. I put the paper on the table, I superimposed a glass plate and I put on the top  an  acetate sheet. With the tip of the welder I followed the profile of the stencil, the heat generated is enough to cut acetate with high accuracy even as narrow curved lines.
